Trail Conditions
The Devou Park natural surface trails are closed to all users - hikers, runners, and bikers - during and immediately following heavy rains. The soil in this region turns to slippery, sticky mud - similar in consistency to peanut butter; both foot traffic and bike tires cause ruts and more erosion when trails are wet and muddy. Trail maintenance, like repairing ruts, are done by volunteers. Please use natural surface trails responsibly and return for your trail adventure when the soil is drier. This helps the trails stay more fun for everyone!
The Devou Park Trails Facebook page and the Cincinnati Off-road Alliance website page lists trail conditions for Devou Park natural surface trails. Green means go. Yellow means the trails might be slick in a few places - please hike, run, or ride on the trail directly through the mud puddle so as to not widen the soft spot or cause further erosion. Red means the trails are closed to all users - hikers, runners, and bikers. During winter months, the Freeze/Thaw - Blue Rule applies, which means only use the trails while they are frozen - which is usually in the early morning before the sun thaws the ground or temperatures rise above freezing. The hard working trail maintenance volunteers are grateful for your mindfulness!
Fortunately, even if the natural surface trails are closed, there are numerous paved paths available throughout Devou Park and surrounding neighborhoods.
